An earthquake with a magnitude of 7 shook Saturday South Eastern Sumatra in Indonesia, sending residents in two cities running in panic from their houses. It was centred beneath the Indian Ocean about 40 miles south of the province's capital of Bengkulu. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. More than 90 quakes ranging between 5 and 7 on teh Richter scale muted this year's celebrations and made many countries welcome New Year in mourning. North western Sumatra was the hardest-hit area in last Sunday's earthquake and tsunami disaster, with about 80,000 people killed.
