The young and most promising Bulgarian sprinter Ivet Lalova was awarded Athlete of 2004, recognition of her excellent performance at the Athens Olympics where she reached both finals at 100m and 200m.
Lalova has been approached for a surprising doping probe earlier this week, her coach Konstantin Milanov announced. He added that Ivet's efforts would be focused on her preparation for the start of 200m at the European Championship next year.
National sports media voted also for Georgi Ivanov, the country's best junior athlete in putting the shot.
Тhe official awarding ceremony took place on December 18 when Lalova and Ivanov received their prizes from Sargenor.
