Bulgaria believes to be able to license an anti-doping laboratory within the next two years, prior to the start of the Torino Olympic games in 2006.

I hope that Bulgaria would join even more effectively the fight against doping and re-establish the fair-play, Sports Minister Vassil Ivanov said upon his return from Athens where he signed an international convention against drug use by athletes, to take effect on January 1, 2005.

Minister Ivanov also said that Bulgarian experts would take part in the elaboration of the new anti-doping convention planned to receive the approval of UNESCO and enter into force in 2006.

Vassil Ivanov took part in a ministerial meeting of sports, cultural and education ministers of the UNESCO Member states. The ministers signed also a Charter for National Sport Games.
