BULGARIAN STOCK EXCHANGE WITH MORE TRANSACTIONS LAST WEEK

Brokers and investors are increasingly active on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange-Sofia. The week from November 19 to 23 saw the sale of 735,071 shares, bonds and depository receipts for 7,735,508 leva in total, against less than 2.5 million leva the week before. The official SOFIX index went up by 3.74 points to 94.98.

The government sold 110 lots of Eurobonds, including 100 lots for 1,005 euros each and ten lots for 1,006 euros each. This first issue of Eurobonds, BEURBG1, is quoted in the single common European currency. It is worth 250 million euros and carries a 7.25 per cent coupon rate per annum. The issue matures on March 1, 2007, and the first interest payment is due on March 1, 2003. Eurobond prices on the Sofia exchange are expected to mirror international market levels.

On Friday, the shares of the Burgas-based LUKoil Neftochim refinery were traded at 5.86 leva each, up from a 4.45 leva week's low on Tuesday.

Golden Sands resort operator Zlatni Pyassutsi of Varna climbed nearly 10 per cent to 3.20 leva. Sunny Beach resort operator Slunchev Bryag of Nessebur went up by 1 lev to 11.59 leva. Slunchev Bryag is likely to sell even better, considering that the expected 6 leva dividend for last year has led the owner to ask 15 leva per share. The Balchik-based Albena resort operator dropped from 6.80 leva to 6.63 leva. Buyers paid between 36 leva and 40 leva for shares of Sofia's Sheraton
Hotel.

A bullish trend was observed in the trade in pharmaceuticals securities. Balkanpharma Doupnitsa went up by 1.38 per cent to 5.35 leva, and Balkanpharma Troyan by 11 per cent to 5.50 leva. Sofia-based Sopharma traded at between 2 leva and 2.02 leva. The share price of Peshtera-based Biovet grew by 47.83 per cent to 1.70 leva.

The Blagoevgrad BT cigarette factory sold at between 18 leva and 18.77 leva. Sofia-based Bulgartabac Holding traded at 13.10 leva, up 0.31 per cent week-on-week.

Cosmetics maker Bulgarska Roza Plovdiv went up 0.31 per cent to 3.22 leva.

The Vratsa-based Chimco urea plant dropped 3.85 per cent to 0.25 leva.

The Kremikovtzi iron and steel works of Sofia climbed 11.54 per cent to 0.58 leva.

In three block deals, brokers sold 200,000 shares of Sliven-based Svetlina (which manufactures electric light sources) for 33 leva each.

Investors bought over 92,000 shares of the Ihtiman-based Detelina spinning factory for 3.80 leva each.

Aluminium-ware maker Alkomet of Shoumen went up 50 per cent to 0.75 leva.

The Transstroy Burgas transport engineering company went up 15.75 per cent to 19.70 leva.

Brokers sold 57,369 shares owned by pump maker Vipom of Vidin for 3.80 leva each, up from 1 lev in March.
