Car Bomb Kills Seven at Iraqi Market Place

A car bomb exploded Tuesday in a crowded market north of Baghdad claiming the lives of at least seven civilians and wounding 18. The bomb went off in a busy staging area in the oil-refining town of Baiji, 180 km north of Baghdad, as a U.S. military patrol was passing. At least 134 US troops died in November, according to recent casualty reports. The US military expects violence to escalate before elections scheduled for January 30, 2005.
