Iraqi Government Rules out Poll Delay

The Iraqi interim government says it is determined to hold elections January 30 as scheduled. Iraq's electoral commission also ruled out postponing the vote, saying it was a technical body and not empowered to have a say in legislative issues. On Friday, 17 Iraqi political parties signed a petition urging a delay of up to six months in the elections due to ongoing violence in the country.
