Palestinian leadership has ordered the preparations for new presidential elections to start immediately a day after Yasser Arafat was buried. Prime Minister Ahmed Qurie told reporters that a presidential election would be held by Jan. 9, within the 60 days set out by law. Little-known parliament speaker Rawhi Fattouh is currently acting president. These are going to be the first elections of this kind since 1996.
