Over 1,000 people gathered on Saturday in front of the Dubrovka theatrical centre in Moscow to honour the memory of the victims of the horrible Nord Ost hostage taking. On 23 October 2002, around 40 Chechen rebels seized the building, holding more than 700 hundred actors and spectators hostage for three days. The crisis ended tragically, after Russian special forces stormed the theatre using gas. All the chechen rebels were killed, along with nearly 130 hostages. The city's government has given around 2.5 million euro to restore the theatre, as most of the set and costumes were damaged.
