Experts from the National Gallery for Foreign Art will decide whether the recently found in Stara Zagora painting is a Titian original.
An Italian Renaissance painting stolen a year ago in Cyprus, possibly a Titian, was recovered in Bulgaria in a police raid that took place last week. It will be transported later on Wednesday to Sofia where the analysis will take place.
The painting, said to be "Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac" will undergo special infrared and X-ray tests.
There were controversial reports on the painting as police officials claimed that it has been stolen while the owner of the canvas said that he had given the painting to the Bulgarian, who has been alleged of stealing the painting.
The canvas is badly damaged mainly due to poor preservation and being kept folded and has been torn. A local daily quoted experts as saying Titian's pupil Lodovico Cigoli (1559-1613) painted the picture presumably in 1606-1607.
