Malta Replace Injured Striker

Sports | October 12, 2004, Tuesday // 00:00

Malta's football coach had to replace striker Michael Galea who suffers a knee injury.

Coach Horst Heese has opted for Floriana's Steve Wellman instead, local media reported. Malta encounters Bulgaria in a World Cup qualifier in Sofia on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, an injury has also left Bulgarian veteran defender Radostin Kishishev out of Bulgaria's starting eleven. Coach Hristo Stoitchkov said Monday that absence would not weaken the team's defence, as there were enough quality players to make it up for Kishishev.

Security, however, was somewhat of a trouble, the team's mentor confessed. Stoitchkov feared that Bulgarian fans could cause some pyrotechnics incident at the stadium, and land the team with a harsh penalty from international authorities.
