Science: Japan Launches Electronic Interpreter

A Japanese electronics firm has developed a handheld translating device.

It converts spoken Japanese to English and vice versa, enabling a user to chat freely without having to learn foreign words. The device consists of speech recognition engine, translation software and a voice generator.

It is planned for launch in Japan in the next few months.
