Locals in Bulgaria's East Rhodope Mountains have got the knack of gold-diggers, sifting the precious metal through the waters of Arda river.

Some of them boast of netting four-five grams of gold at one go, most often in the middle reaches of the river.

Special tourist routes have been created under the PHARE program, which offer tourists a view into the golden river.
