An Iranian diplomat and an Egyptian telecom worker, who were held hostage for days in Iraq, have been released. Al Jazeera television said late on Monday an Egyptian and two Iraqis kidnapped a few days ago had been freed.The Qatar-based television channel quoted an Egyptian diplomatic sources in Baghdad as saying the remaining five Egyptian telecoms workers would also be released. Iran's Foreign Ministry confirmed that Faridoun Jahani, the Iranian consul in the Iraqi holy city of Karbala, was released and was safe at the Iranian Embassy in Baghdad. "The only political demand the captors made was the release of all Iraqi prisoners held in Iran," Jahani told reporters. "When they found out there were no Iraqi prisoners in Iran they changed their position."
