There has been some Bulgarian style in the glamour of the TV series of "Sex and the City" that recently won two 2004 Primetime Emmy Awards.
One of the dresses of Miranda Hobbes, the smart, self-assured and proud of her achievements lawyer from the world-renowned TV series was designed by the Bulgarian Iliana Ricketts, local 24 Hours daily reported. The pea green Ilya dress was used in one of the series in the sixth season of the extremely successful serial.
Iliana Ricketts, known as Ilya, is not as famous in Bulgaria as in the United Stats. Ilya told the Bulgarian daily that the "Sex and the City" stylists found her dress in the New York "Henri Bendel" fashion center.
I create my models and sent them to the designers of the fashion shops I work with, Ilya said. There were just six pea green dresses like Miranda's one and each of them cost USD 380.
Ilya comes from the Bulgarian Black Sea capital Vrana, where she graduated the art school "Lyuben Karavelov." Iliana Ricketts arrived in the United States in 1996, bringing with her a unique spirit of European inspiration. She continued her education and graduated with an MFA in Fashion Design from Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Iliana's career in the fashion business spans more than 10 years. Since 1999, she has worked as a part-time instructor at AAC and has had numerous freelance jobs as a designer, illustrator and consultant.
Combining her creativity with an American understanding of product, Iliana launched a designer ready-to-wear line-ILYA-in Fall 2002. It is characterized by an unorthodox approach to detail and function, anchored by traditional soft tailoring techniques. ILYA is sold in specialty boutiques and department stores (Henri Bendel) around the United States.
