A draft report compiled by US weapons inspectors in Iraq is set to reveal that Baghdad did not have stocks of weapons of mass destruction. However the 1,500-page report is said to conclude that former leader Saddam Hussein was planning to revive his weapons programme. The head of the arms inspectors Charles Duelfer says Iraq only had small research and development programmes for chemical and biological weapons at its disposal. The report is expected to be ready in the next few weeks. The United States justified the war against Iraq by saying that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction and posed an immediate threat.
