U.S. Ambassador to Sofia James Pardew and his spouse Kathy Pardew have been named Honorary Patrons of the National Ballet of Sofia for the Fall 2004 - Spring 2005 Season.
The Fall 2004 repertoire will premiere with a program to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birthday of the great American choreographer George Balanchine. Performances of Balanchine's works will be presented on November 19-20. The National Ballet will join sixty dance troupes worldwide celebrating this legendary figure who introduced ballet to America and electrified the art form worldwide with his expressive creativity and musical passion.
The National Ballet will also present premiere performances of "Prokofiev-Rakhmaninov-Stravinksy," (a Bulgarian-Russian-German co-production), "A Man and the Objects Around Him" (a French and Bulgarian co-production), and premieres of "The Red Shoes," and "The Emperor's New Clothes" to commemorate the bicentennial year of Hans Christian Anderson (in cooperation with the British Council, Embassy of Norway and Embassy of Denmark).
In addition to these premieres, the National Ballet will present throughout the year such favorites as "Sleeping Beauty," "Swan Lake," "The Nutcracker," "Sylphide," "Don Quixote," and more.
