Baghdad Clashes Kill Dozens More than 40 people have died in Baghdad during clashes between al-Sadr loyalists and US soldiers, al-Jazeera says. Photo by aljazeera.net

More than 40 have died in Baghdad's Sadr City over a 24-hour period, during clashes between US soldiers and militants loyal to radical cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. The renewed fighting came after a period of calm in the impoverished neighbourhood after Shia leader al-Sadr called on his followers last week to observe a ceasefire.
