Cash Accord for Bulgaria's Footballers

Sports | September 2, 2004, Thursday // 00:00

Bulgaria's football team and sport officials have agreed on the bonus payments in case of World Cup qualifying.

The total sum is said to stand at EUR 1 M, although the team management refused to publish such information.

The opening qualifier will take place on Saturday with an Iceland encounter. The Bulgarians headed for the northern country on Thursday morning.

"I have faith in the boys, and our only goal is victory," coach Hristo Stoitchkov said earlier this week.

The football legend said that to him a strong forward line was the key to success. Still, Stoitchkov boasted skilled defenders to hold up Iceland's ace, Gudjonsson.
