Typhoon Hits South Japan

Typhoon Chaba hit Japan's southern island of Kyushu in a flurry of torrential rain and strong winds. Around 6,000 people have left their homes for temporary shelters amid warnings of flooding and landslides. A further 300,000 homes on Kyushu island are without electricity. The typhoon is moving north-northeast, say weather officials, taking a similar route to Typhoon Megi, which caused 10 deaths in Japan earlier in August.
