Almost three decades after a Bulgarian mid-distance sprint at Olympic finals, Daniela Yordanova managed to cruise to the prestigious fifth place in the 1,500m finals despite a serious leg injury.
Scoring a personal record of 3:59.10, Yordanova, 22, made a historic run together with double champion Kelly Holmes from the United Kingdom who became the first ever British woman to achieve the middle distance double after winning the 800m earlier in the Games.
She won in a thrilling last lap leaving far behind the rest of rivaling runners.
Kelly Holmes, 34, struck gold on Monday in a sensational photo-finish 800m final - one of the high points of the games for Team GB.
