New books have been released across the country and new movies are in cinemas. Special songs are being broadcast on state television and China's top communists have gathered in Beijing. Deng is hailed as the father of modern China, the chief architect of the decision to reform and open up the nation's economy. The ruling Communist Party glossed over the leader's role in the 1989 Tiananmen Massacre, when soldiers were given the order to brutally end a peaceful demonstration in the capital, resulting in many deaths. Current President Hu Jintao praised Sunday Deng Xiaoping as a glorious example for the Chinese people.
