New York`s benchmark light sweet crude contract for October delivery was at 47.88 dollars a barrel in electronic trade, up 24 cents from 47.64 dollars the previous day. It touched a high of 48.00 dollars. The contract for September for the first time barreled through the 48-dollar mark and expired at an unprecedented settlement price of 48.70 dollars in New York on Thursday.
