An accident-plagued fountain commemorating Princess Diana re-opened to the public but with restrictions on its use after almost a month of modifications. The changes were carried out to prevent further accidents after a number of visitors slipped and hurt themselves. The shallow granite oval channel filled with running water in the capital's Hyde Park was intended as both memorial and play area, allowing visitors - especially children - to splash around inside the fountain's flow. However it was closed and sealed off on July 22, just a fortnight after being opened by Queen Elizabeth, after a series of visitors lost their footing on the slippery stone surface and fell, injuring themselves.
