Indonesians celebrate 59 years of independence from Dutch rule on Tuesday with special games. The sprawling Southeast Asian country marked the day by solemn flag-raising ceremonies, some held in regions blanketed by haze from forest fires blamed on environmentally hazardous land-clearing practices. In the capital, the main flag raising ceremony was led by President Megawati Sukarnoputri at the city's Merdeka Palace, replete with a 17 gun salute. The ceremony is Megawati's last before she bids for re-election in September polls.
