Bulgarian Georgi Georgiev swept an Olympic bronze medal in the men's 66 kg Judo competition in Athens.

The Bulgarian sportsman swept the medal after a victory over Spain's Oscar Penas. The gold medal went to Japanese Masato Ushishiba, while the silver was won by Jozef Krnac.

When talking about his achievement Georgiev said "I'm very exited because today I wrote history for Bulgarian judo. I had to compete against the Spanish athlete and the bad decisions of the referees and the judges. I've worked very hard over the last year and I' m very happy that I did it."

Georgiev's medal came 24 year after Bulgaria's last Olympic title in that sport. The last Olympic medals were swept at the Moscow Olympic Games in 1980, when Dimitar Zapryanov swept the silver medal in his category men 100kg and Iliyan Nedkov won the bronze in the men's 66kg.
