The Eiffel Tower was briefly evacuated on Wednesday after authorities received a bomb threat against the world-famous monument. It reopened late in the afternoon after being shut down while police searched it for explosive devices. Nothing suspicious was found. Nearly 4,200 people had to be evacuated from the site in the French capital. The tower has received more than 200 million visitors since it opened at the Paris Exhibition in 1889. It draws 6 million visitors a year, making it the world's most popular paying tourist site.
