Plamen Markov resigned from his position as coach of Bulgaria's national football team after his squad was trashed in its three games at the European Championship in Portugal.

Markov explained that he has been offered to lead the Bulgarians through the qualifications for the World Football Championship in 2006. Nevertheless I decided to quit, the coach explained. I wish the boys all the best as they are really talented, Plamen Markov underlined.

Bulgaria's national football team has played 25 matches under his command and has managed to achieve 11 victories and 9 defeats.

Markov was blamed for the poor performance of the Bulgarian team at Euro 2004, though before leaving for Portugal Markov and his boys warned that the fact that they qualified for the championship was the actual success.
