Hundreds of thousands of protesters marched through the streets of Hong Kong to demand greater democracy and send a defiant message to the territory's communist rulers in Beijing. Organisers said over 250,000 people came despite intense heat on the seventh anniversary of the former British colony's return to Chinese control to vent anger over Beijing's decision to deny Hong Kong universal suffrage.
