Conservative Horst Koehler, 61, won a narrow victory for the German presidential post. The former head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) ousted rival Gesine Schwan from the ruling party. A special federal assembly voted 604-to-589 in Koehler's favor. The body comes together once in five years. Shortly after voting results were announced, Koehler pledged to push for economic reforms in the country.
