Bulgarians Call Halt to Everest Expedition The 8,848-high "top of the world" Everest has claimed the lives of nearly 200 alpinists since the history of its conquering. The first Bulgarian to step on it, Hristo Prodanov, went missing on his way down 20 years ago. Photo by EverestNews.com

The Bulgarians in the outskirts of Mount Everest have suspended their expedition early this morning.

Another two members - Ivan Valchev and Ivan Temelkov - were set to step on the top of the world but gave up due to the freezing temperatures, hitting 15-20 degrees below zero.

The third Bulgarian, Hristo Hristov, 26, who reportedly has stepped on the Everest is still unaccounted for.

Hopes fade for his survival as the weather conditions and the freezing temperatures makes it impossible for a man to live through in the mountain overnight.
