Polish Parliament Rejects PM Designate-Gov

The Polish parliament in a no-confidence vote late Friday rejected the government of prime minister-designate Marek Belka, leaving the new European Union member in political limbo just two weeks after joining the bloc. Two-hundred sixty-two legislators voted against Belka to 188 for. The legislature now has 14 days to find another candidate, failing which President Aleksander Kwasniewski has to designate a new potential prime minister. Belka however will stay on in a caretaker capacity.
