UN Expresses Concern over Abuse

The United Nations issued a statement late Monday expressing serious concern about the reports of torture of Iraqis by US and British forces. The UN special investigator on torture, Theo van Boven, said that the culprits must be punished and that victims should be paid reparations as well. The US military reprimanded six officers and admonished another one as a consequence of the alleged abuse in Baghdad's Abu Ghraib prison.
