Ariel Sharon's ruling Likud party rejected his plan to withdraw unilaterally from the Gaza Strip in a referendum held on Sunday. A total of 59.5 percent of the Likud members who cast a vote on Sunday rejected the scheme, just 39.7 percent of the Likud members backed Sharon's scheme.
