Rebels Blew Up Bridges to Georgia

The rebellious Georgian region of Ajaria blew up two bridges linking it to the rest of Georgia, amid rising tensions with the central government. The explosions occurred as the Georgian army carried out manoeuvres nearby. Ajarian leader Aslan Abashidze rejects central control over his province and claims Georgia is preparing to invade. He said the destruction of the bridges - coming days after he mobilised reservists and declared a state of emergency - was an act of self-defence.
