Rome Spurns Kidnappers Ultimatum

The government and the opposition in Italy rejected the ultimatum, delivered by kidnappers in Iraq, who vowed to kill three Italian hostages. We will not give in to terrorists' pressure, Italian officials said. A videotape aired Monday by news broadcaster Al Arabiya showed the militants, calling itself the Green Brigades, who claimed the hostages' release in five days if the Italian people protest against their military presence in Iraq.
