President Leads in Sri Lanka Poll

Early results from Sri Lanka's general election show that President Chandrika Kumaratunga's party won 45% of the votes counted so far. It is still unclear whether she will win an outright majority in parliament. About 75% of registered voters took part in generally free and fair elections on Friday. Sri Lanka has been in crisis since a bitter dispute over the peace process with Tamil rebels erupted between the president and PM Ranil Wickramasinghe.
