The United States has extended its fingerprint scheme to include also citizens from the country's closest allies. The move projects that visitors from 27 countries - including the United Kingdom, Japan and Australia - will be fingerprinted and photographed upon entry into the US. The change in the "US-Visit" program is due to take effect by September 30. The US administration made the change after determining the so-called "visa-waiver countries" will not meet an October deadline to have sophisticated passports that include fingerprint and iris identification features that make counterfeiting virtually impossible.
