Cyprus Talks on Fever Pitch

Cyprus talks between Greeks, Turks, the UN and the European Commission are in overdrive in the face of expiring today deadline to agree terms of island's reunification. Both Greek and Turkish sides reacted sternly to the latest draft of the plan drawn up by UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who has been involved in the talks since Saturday. The draft plan allows for 18 percent of Greek Cypriots to return to homes abandoned during the 1974 Turkish invasion of the island. However, Greeks are said to be unhappy with the latest draft as it allows a Turkish military presence on the island.
