Oxford has been made slight favourites to pip old rivals Cambridge in the 150th annual boat race between England's oldest universities, to be held on Sunday. The previous year Oxford won by just two thirds of a length. The race, which was first held in 1829, is held over a four miles and 374 yards stretch of the Thames with the start near Putney Bridge and the finish at Mortlake, near to Chiswick bridge.
