The European Commission looks set to impose fines of 200 million euro on software giant Microsoft for breaching EU competition laws, according to reports in German daily Die Welt. In addition to the hefty fines, Microsoft would also be forced to offer versions of its Windows operating system without certain features, notably Windows media player - which allows users to download sound and video clips. The five-year investigation into the case is due to end on 24 March unless a settlement can be reached. And experts from the 15 member states will gather today (15 March) to discuss the technical aspects of the decision.
