Rescuers in a helicopter located a group of 12 Russian scientists stranded on an ice floe in the Arctic Ocean. The aircraft landed on the floe and will send details of their position to a heavy transport helicopter that will aim to pick up the men. The larger helicopter will have to perform a risky mid-air manoeuvre as the ice floe is too unstable for it to land, the Itar-Tass news agency says. Weather conditions are reported to be favourable for the operation. Part of the floe sank on Wednesday, destroying large parts of Russia's Arctic research station, about 800km from the Norwegian island of Spitzbergen.
