Russia's President Vladimir Putin has proposed Mikhail Fradkov to take over the post of prime minister after sacking the government just weeks before presidential elections, ITAR-TASS reported on Monday. Fradkov is a former chief of the tax police and Russia's envoy to the European Union. Under the Russian Constitution, Putin now has to submit the proposal for approval in the lower house of parliament, the Duma, where a party that supports him has 306 of the 450 seats. Russia will hold a presidential election on March 14, when Putin is expected to sweep a landline victory.
