Thousands of Pakistani troops were preparing to launch a raid into the areas bordering Afghanistan if tribal elders refused to hand over wanted Al-Qaeda suspects. The tribal leaders were last week given a deadline to capture and hand over the suspects as well as the local people accused of harbouring them. The focus of the manhunt is said to be South Waziristan where many fugitives suspected of involvement in attacks against the US-led coalition and Afghan forces across the border in the Afghan provinces of Khost, Paktia and Paktika are hiding.
