Former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO General Wesley Clark announced his decision to withdraw for the US presidential race ahead of November's elections. As main reason, the general pointed lack of enough support from voters as well as of campaign funds. "In the end, I'm still a soldier - not a politician," Clark said. He underlined that he would do what he could to help the Democratic nominee, whoever that is. He also scourged current President George Bush over "playing politics with national security." Democrats pinned hopes on Clark's candidature last fall, and he also received good wishes from former President Bill Clinton.
