UN Team in Iraq to Advise on Elections

A United Nations electoral fact-finding team arrived in Iraq to discuss a handover of political power. It will meet Iraqi leaders and US-led authorities, and make proposals on the transition to self-rule, the UN said. The main task is to determine whether elections are possible by 30 June - the US deadline for handing over power. US President Bush wants the new government selected by regional meetings, but Iraq's majority Shias demand direct elections take place this year.
