PRIME MINISTER PLEASED WITH VISIT TO BELGIUM

The Bulgarian Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg is very happy with the talks he had during the passed days in Brussels and Strasbourg. They surpassed his expectations and these of his hosts, he said at the end of a three-day visit and after a series of talks with EU and NATO leaders and the Belgian Prime Minister. It was the first official trip abroad of the Prime Minister since he took office this summer.Saxe-Coburg began his working visit to Strasbourg by noon on October 24, conferring with European Parliament President Nicole Lafontaine. `The meeting passed in a very cordial atmosphere,` the Bulgarian Prime Minister said and hurried to meet with Pedro Solbes Mira, European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs. The Bulgarian Prime Minister was met by the European Parliament. The chairman of the session addressed Saxe-Coburg voicing hope that Bulgaria would soon join the EU,which would consolidate the democratic processes in the country and allow the Bulgarian citizens to participate in building united Europe. Simeon Saxe-Coburg briefed Sobles on the Government`s plans for further privatization, tax reforms and reforms in the customs service. The Prime Minister also met with the floor leaders of the European People`s Party Hans-Gert Poettering, of the Party of European Socialists Enrique Baron Crespo and of the Group of European Liberal, Democrat and Reform Party Patrick Cox. The talks focused on the enlargement of the EU and various aspects of Bulgaria`s preparation for accession.
