The losses that Turkey suffered due to the closure of the Istanbul stock exchange have been estimated at some USD 800,000, Turkish newspaper wrote ob Saturday. Figures are expected to rise even higher if the weather condition does not improve. Freezing temperatures, heavy snow and high winds caused chaos in parts of southeastern Europe, claiming dozens of lives and overwhelming emergency services. The shipping route linking the Black Sea to the Mediterranean via the Bosphorus remained closed for the second day in a row after strong winds and snow severely impaired visibility. Six schoolboys and three adults were rescued on Saturday after being trapped for 16 hours in a blizzard in eastern Turkey, but in other parts of the country at least six people have died of cold and two others were missing.
