Fashion: What to Wear on a Business Trip

Business travel is a great way to build your career but can be a real challenge when it comes to packing.

Not only do you want to make a great impression, particularly if you're meeting with a client for the first time or trying to close a big deal, but you want to "fit in" with the locals and not pack your entire closet in the process.

1. Check The Weather

If your business trip is more than 10 days out, you can check historical averages for the area and get a good idea of what's in store.

2. Inquire About The Dress Code

Dress codes can vary significantly from city to city and region to region. Be as specific as possible. Don't count on your business contact to tell you what you need to know. Ask so there's no question. If you don't feel comfortable enough with your host or client to do this, call the local Chamber of Commerce to see what's appropriate business travel attire. Or, if you'll be traveling abroad, contact your country's embassy in your destination city to find out what to expect.
