Georgian lawyer Mikhail Saakashvili is widely regarded as the winner in Georgia's presidential poll on Sunday, where several people will contest. The vote was triggered at the end of November when protestors in Georgia took over the building of Parliament in Tbilisi just after it opened, calling on President Shevardnadze to step down. Georgia's main opposition leader, Mikhail Saakashvili led his supporters into the building. He said a "bloodless revolution" was going on after official results gave the government victory in the elections. Turnout has to reach 50% for the election to be valid and, amid fears that many voters may stay at home, Mr Saakashvili has appealed to people to turn out.
