No Signal from Mars-Landing Probe

World | December 25, 2003, Thursday // 00:00

Scientists have failed to pick up a signal from the Beagle 2 spacecraft to indicate it has landed safely on Mars. The British-built spacecraft should land on the Red Planet on December 25, after a six-month flight. Later on Thursday, UK's giant Jodrell Bank telescope will come eon line to try and detect the expected signal. However, if no call sign has been received by the end of 26 December, hopes for Beagle 2 will start to fade. If successful, Beagle 2 will embark on a 180-day mission to search for signs of life.
